Board of Commissioners Announces Process to Fill Commissioner Vacancy
The Macomb County Board of Commissioners officially announces the process that will be used in the event that a vacancy occurs on the BOC as a result of the April 16, 2024 election.
Section 4.8.2 of the Macomb County Charter states:
“A vacancy shall be filled by appointment of a registered and qualified elector of the district in which he or she is to be appointed within 30 days by a Majority of Commissioners. The appointee shall take office upon filing the oath of office with the County Clerk after the meeting at which the appointment is made.”
In the event that a vacancy occurs, the following process will be used:
- The application period will be announced and open to all candidates on April 17th.
- Applications will be due by May 1st at 5 p.m.
- Public interviews will take place at the BOC’s Government Oversight Committee meeting on May 8th.
- The vote for appointment will be held at the May 16th Full Board meeting.
