Board of Commissioners Bike Ride: Saturday, September 16, 2023
The Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ first annual Drop-In Community Bike Ride, which took place last Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Clinton River Park North in Sterling Heights from 9 am to noon, was a huge success. Credit must be given to the Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation for their exceptional efforts and partnership in preparing the park for the bike ride. The Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation also provided park ranger security, visible maps in case riders veered off their path and clean bathroom facilities.
The primary goal of this event was to promote health, wellness, and community engagement throughout Macomb County. Commissioner Don VanSyckel, who represents part of Sterling Heights, hosted the event with great enthusiasm, encouraging residents to adopt an active lifestyle and explore the beauty of their surroundings. Chairman Brown gave his support with his presence encouraging residents to have fun. The event drew an impressive turnout, with almost a couple dozen riders and families coming out to participate.
Several noteworthy features made this event special:
• Scenic Routes: Participants had the opportunity to select from a variety of meticulously planned routes, catering to riders of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned cyclists. These routes, spanning approximately 1 to 3 miles, showcased the park’s natural landscapes.
• Family-Friendly Atmosphere: The event was intentionally designed to be family-friendly, with routes carefully tailored to accommodate riders of different ages. It provided families with an excellent opportunity to spend quality time together and embark on outdoor adventures.
• Health and Wellness: Cycling was emphasized as an excellent way to stay active and promote a healthy lifestyle. The bike ride actively encouraged residents to prioritize their well-being while enjoying themselves.
• Community Building: This event served as an exceptional platform for residents to meet and connect with fellow community members who shared a passion for cycling and outdoor activities. It fostered a strong sense of togetherness and community spirit among all participants.
Key Event Details:
Admission: The event was free of charge.
Safety: Bike helmets were mandatory to ensure the safety of all participants.
Support: Macomb Bike from Warren was present with a bike safety table, offering services to check bikes and tires.
Health Education: The Macomb County Health Department had health educators on-site, further emphasizing the importance of well-being.
The recent bike ride highlighted the Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ unwavering commitment to the welfare of its residents, focusing on enhancing both physical and mental well-being. We eagerly anticipate your participation in our next biking event, where we’ll continue to promote health, unity, and community engagement throughout Macomb County. We hope to see you there!
