The Macomb County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a balanced budget for 2025 at its Full Board Meeting this afternoon. After multiple hours spent at numerous public meetings analyzing the numbers, the Board worked in a bipartisan manner to adopt a budget that prioritizes public safety and health.
The $1.2 billion budget includes $346 million of General Fund dollars and a strong position for the future with a fund balance of $122 million. Almost $200 million is being invested in public safety, $47.8 million in public health, $10.6 million for public works and $7.2 million for senior
services. The budget also prioritizes public safety and mental health by appropriating $5 million of the 2025 General Fund towards the Central Intake and Assessment Center. Creation of a ditching program to help local communities alleviate flooding issues.
“The 2025 adopted budget increases funding for public safety, senior services and public health without any increase to the taxpayers,” said Board Chair Don Brown. “Funding was dedicated to enhance public works through a County ditch program and improve quality of life by maintaining County trails. The Board also utilized amendments to help finance the Central Intake and Assessment Center project, which has been referred to as a national model for public safety.”
The amendments made to the Executive’s recommended budget increased the fund balance by $100,000 and set money aside for the County’s Central Intake and Assessment Center. This center will provide centralized intake and universal assessment for medical, mental health and pretrial services at intake, front-end diversion by the courts, and offer medical, mental health and detox treatment wings.
“The budget review process was handled transparently, through multiple public meetings over the course of two months. Each department’s budget was thoroughly analyzed to ensure our fiduciary duty to the taxpayers,” said Finance/Audit/Budget Committee Chair Joe Sabatini. “We unanimously adopted 18 amendments to the recommended budget, appropriating $5 million towards the new Central Intake and Assessment Center, supporting the County’s initiative to increase public safety and public health.”
