About Sylvia

Macomb County Commissioner Sylvia Grot was elected to her first term in November 2022 and reelected in November 2024 to a four year term.  Sylvia represents District 3, which encompasses most of Shelby Township and the entire City of Utica.

Commissioner Grot was appointed to the Macomb Orchard Trail Commission in August, 2023 and serves as Chair.  She was elected Sergeant of Arms by the Board of Commissioners in January 2023 and reelected in January 2025 for the four-year term.  In April 2025, Syvlia was nominated by the Macomb County Executive and confirmed by the Board of Commissioners to serve as a delegate to SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) as a Macomb County representative.

Commissioner Grot is no stranger to public service, she is married to current Shelby Township Clerk Stanley T. Grot. When they married 29 years ago and started their family, Sylvia became a stay at home mother, raising their three sons Daniel, David, Jacob and daughter Julia who are now all grown.

Sylvia has been an active volunteer at Crissman Elementary, Malow Junior High School and Eisenhower High School, where she assisted teachers in various capacities and also served as a lunch mom. She continues to support the community as a member of the Shelby Township Beautification Committee and through her participation in the Shelby Township Cleanup Day. Sylvia and her family have been involved in community beautification efforts for the past nine years.

After finishing high school, Sylvia completed her education in Europe in the culinary and catering industry. She has been involved in local politics for the past 18 years as a precinct delegate and has served on the Congressional 10th District Executive Committee and the Michigan Republican Party State Committee.

Some of Sylvia’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, reading, and traveling throughout our beautiful state with her family.

Sylvia’s philosophy in governing is rooted in a common-sense conservative approach, anchored on the belief that government should not spend money that it does not have. As a candidate, she pledged no new taxes and her main priority is to secure additional funding to repair crumbling roads in her district, specifically the widening of Schoenherr Road to ensure it remains a safe roadway.  Sylvia is committed to rolling up her sleeves each day to work diligently in District 3 and deliver on her promises to the taxpayers.
