Macomb County Commissioner Sylvia Grot was elected to her first term in November 2022 and represents District 3 which encompasses most of Shelby Township and the entire City of Utica.
Commissioner Grot is not a stranger to public service, she is married to current Shelby Township Clerk Stanley T. Grot. When they married 27 years ago and started their family, Sylvia became a stay at home mom raising their three sons Daniel, David, Jacob and daughter Julia who are now all grown. She has been a volunteer at Crissman Elementary, Malow Junior High School and Eisenhower High School where she assisted teachers in various ways and also served as a lunch mom. Additionally, Sylvia continues to support the community as a member of the Beautification Committee in Shelby Township; and through her participation in the Shelby Township Cleanup Day. She and her family have been involved for the past seven years to help beautify her community.
After finishing high school, Sylvia completed her education in Europe in the culinary and catering industry. She has been involved in local politics as a precinct delegate for the past 16 years, serving on the Congressional 10th District Executive Committee and the Michigan Republican Party State Committee. Some of Sylvia’s hobbies are cooking, gardening, landscaping and traveling our beautiful state with her family.
Sylvia’s philosophy in governing is a common sense conservative approach anchored on the premise that government should not spend money that it does not have. As a candidate she pledged no new taxes or fees and her main priority will be to secure more funds to repair crumbling roads in her district and specifically widening Schoenherr Road so that it does not become an unsafe road to travel. Sylvia is committed to rolling up her sleeves each day to work vigorously in District 3 to deliver on her promises to the taxpayers.
