The Macomb County Board of Commissioners hosted a Legislative Town Hall yesterday afternoon, bringing together state and federal legislators with county commissioners to discuss key issues facing Macomb County. This event was initiated by the late Marvin Sauger, a former Commissioner, and has been held regularly since 2018.
Legislators provided a brief update on their current priorities, which was followed by a Q&A session with Commissioners. The conversations were very productive with topics that included road and infrastructure improvements, public education, aerospace and defense – specifically, Selfridge Air National Guard base – and the ongoing protection and improvement of water quality in Lake St. Clair. The discussion highlighted a strong, shared commitment across all levels of government to putting Macomb County residents first. Participants also emphasized the importance of ongoing communication to effectively address Macomb County’s evolving needs.
“Working together with our state and federal legislators is essential to delivering real results for our residents, ” said Board Chair Joe Sabatini. “Thank you to all the legislators who were able to attend; we appreciate their insight on the issues seen at all levels of government.”
Senators Michael Webber (District 9), Veronica Klinefelt (District 11), Kevin Hertel (District 12) and State Representatives Kimberly L. Edwards (District 12), Mai Xiong (District 13), Mike McFall (District 14), Douglas Wozniak (District 59), Joseph Aragona (District 60), Denise Mentzer (District 61), Alicia St. Germaine (District 62) and Jay DeBoyer (District 63) were in attendance along with a designee from the offices of Senators Stephanie Chang and Gary Peters and Representatives Jaime Greene (District 65) and Donovan McKinney (District 11). Senator Klinefelt and Representative Xiong both served on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners prior to their current offices.
The audience included county and local officials, along with many members of the public. Photos can be found at bocmacomb.org and the recording from the meeting will be posted on the Board’s YouTube page at: https://www.youtube.com/@
