Macomb County Board of Commissioners Unanimously Adopts 2024 Budget
The Macomb County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a balanced budget for 2024 at its Full Board Meeting this afternoon. After multiple hours spent in many public meetings analyzing the numbers, the Board worked in a bipartisan manner to adopt a budget that very closely aligned with the recommended budget received from the County Executive.
Highlights of the 2024 budget include a total budget of $1.1 billion with over $322 million of that in the County’s General Fund and a strong position for the future with a fund balance over $110 million. Through combined efforts of the Board, Elected Officials, Executive and Administration, amendments increased the fund balance by an additional $300,000. Expenses only increased 5 percent from the 2023 adopted budget while investments were made to attract and retain employees. Transparency was prioritized as funds were appropriated for three audits to take place in 2024 – an internal controls audit, a cybersecurity audit and a dependent audit. Through amendments, the Board added five grant-funded public safety positions.
“The Board takes great pride in the fact that they worked in a bipartisan fashion with the Executive and his Administration to unanimously adopt a budget that best serves the citizens of Macomb County.” said Board Chair Don Brown. “We are one team, one mission, always striving to put the needs of our community at the forefront, committed to ensuring responsible spending for our taxpayers.”
“We had a thorough, fully transparent, process in place to review this budget,” said Finance/Audit/Budget Committee Chair, Joe Sabatini. “We dissected each department’s budget to ensure our fiduciary duty to the taxpayers. We considered almost 30 amendments to the recommended budget, which were all made and deliberated at a public meeting.”
