The 13-0 vote demonstrates the Board’s commitment to enhancing the county’s water and sewer infrastructure projects and fortifying the region against combined sewage overflows into Lake St. Clair.
“This critical budget amendment represents a significant step towards improving and addressing the challenges of combined sewage overflows and protecting one of our great natural resources Lake St. Clair, and we are doing it without raising taxes for the residents.” stated Chairman Brown.
The approved funds will be utilized to partially finance four projects that are geared towards upgrading electrical systems and generators, implementing in-system storage, rehabilitating pumps, and installing wastewater sewer lines. These initiatives will play a pivotal role in reducing combined sewage overflows into Lake St. Clair and pave the way for a more sustainable and ecologically responsible future.
Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller sincerely thanked the Board for their unwavering support and highlighted the immense importance of these projects. “The $40 million in ARP funds will help us make essential infrastructure improvements to reduce sewage overflows and create a healthier, stronger county. We will use the funds wisely,” Commissioner Miller said with excitement.
