If approved, this proposal will levy for four (4) years, 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030, 0.0690 mills by Macomb County that expires in 2026. This will continue funding the financial aid and services for Macomb County veterans and support the administration of the Macomb County Department of Veteran Affairs and Macomb County Veteran Affairs Commission.

Shall the 0.0690 millage be renewed and restore the remaining 0.0017 mills that was reduced due to required rollback, for a total authorized rate of 0.0690 mills for the years 2027 through 2030, (6.9 cents per $1,000 of taxable value), be levied for four (4) years, 2027, 2028, 2029 and 2030 inclusive, by Macomb County on taxable real and personal property for the purpose of providing financial aid and services for Macomb County Veterans and to support the administration of the Macomb County Department of Veterans Affairs and Macomb County Veterans Affairs Commission? It is estimated that a levy of 0.0690 mills will raise approximately $2,877,813 in the first calendar year of the levy. For example, on a property having a residential market value of $100,000 (estimated taxable value of $50,000), 0.0690 mills would be $3.45 of levied tax annually.

A millage is a property tax calculated based on a property’s taxable value. One mill equals $1 for every $1,000 of taxable value.

The proposed rate of 0.069 mills equals 6.9 cents for every $1,000 of taxable value.

The amount depends on the property’s taxable value, not its market value.

For example, if a home has:

  • A market value of $100,000; and
  • An estimated taxable value of $50,000;

a 0.0690-mill levy would result in an estimated $3.45 in property tax per year.

The actual amount for an individual property would depend on its taxable value.

If approved, the millage is estimated to raise approximately $2,877,813 in the first year.

If the proposal does not receive voter approval, the current voter-approved veterans’ millage authorization will expire after the 2026 tax year.
