Macomb County Casual Day

The Board of Commissioners proudly coordinates the Macomb County Casual Day Charitable Collections Program.  With department leader permission, participating employees may wear casual clothing to work on Fridays/designated days if they donate at least one dollar.

The Casual Day program was first adopted by resolution of the Board of Commissioners in 1994 and it has continued to grow thanks to Macomb County employees’ commitment to helping others.  Since the program’s inception, nearly $720,000 has been generously donated to various charities.

Each year, the BOC announces the application period, which is in the fall.  The chosen charities are selected in December for the upcoming year.  Don’t miss this opportunity – sign up for email announcements regarding Casual Day and other BOC programs here.

• A written request on letterhead from a designated official of the charity;
• The current 501(c)(3) certificate;
• The solicitation license from the State Attorney General’s Office.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Charities requesting consideration for casual day funds must be a registered non-profit 501(c)(3).
2. Macomb County government internal programs shall be exempt from the 501(c)(3) requirement.
3. Charities do not need to be located in Macomb County but must serve Macomb County residents.

Program Guidelines

1. Thirteen organizations will be chosen for each calendar year. Macomb County government internal
   programs will receive first priority over “outside requests” for program participation. Charities not
   chosen the previous year will receive second priority. If more requests are received than there are
   spots available, a lottery will be held.
2. There shall be no limit on the number of times a charity/Macomb County internal program may apply
   to be a recipient of casual day funds. However, no charity/Macomb County internal program shall be
   chosen to receive casual day funds more than once in a calendar year.
3. A charity may request consideration for casual day funds by submitting the information required by
   the Board of Commissioners within the application period for each year. The request must also
   include a current 501(c)(3) certificate and solicitation license from the State Attorney General’s
   Office.
4. Requests for “special casual days” (including for county employees) will no longer be considered nor
   approved.
5. Charities will be assigned either (1) one month in which it receives the funds collected on the first four
   Fridays of that month or (2) the fifth Fridays of the year, in which it will receive the funds collected all
   fifth Fridays of the designated calendar year.
6. If a Friday is designated as a County holiday, the casual day shall be held the first scheduled work day
   preceding the holiday Friday.
