The fight for protecting Michigan’s natural resources and creating a sustainable future received additional support from WM. The waste and environmental services company presented a check for the Macomb County Board of Commissioners’ Green Schools Program at their Pine Tree Acres Landfill Open House. Receiving the check were Board Chair Don Brown, Commissioners Don VanSyckel and Mai Xiong, and Green Schools Coordinator Laura Murphy.
Commissioner Phil Kraft, whose district includes Lenox Township, made the contact that led to the generous donation that will enhance the Macomb County Green Schools program. This program educates K-12 students on the importance of protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future in fun and engaging ways.
As of the latest application cycle, the Macomb County Green Schools program recognized 77 schools as being a “Green School.” Schools that wish to be recognized as such must apply every year by implementing eco-friendly activities and education throughout the curriculum.
To receive Green Schools status, a school must describe how they have performed at least ten of the activities listed in the program guidelines. For more information visit: https://bocmacomb.org/programs/macomb-county-green-schools/.
